アメリカ人は韻を踏むのが好きである。日本語では、「韻を踏む」という長ったらしい言い回しだが、英語は「rhyme」という一語である。Calm before Storm などはRhymeの代表的なフレーズである。日本語では「嵐の前の静けさ」という長ったらしい表現になる。
Haste makes waste. 急がば回れ。(急いては事を仕損じる。)
No pain, no gain.苦あれば楽あり。 実際にはいたみがなければ、えるものはない、
『ヴェニスの商人』金の箱の場面より、、、

長女尚子が小学校の三年ぐらいの時、このRhymeを盛んに勉強していた。私たち親は、何も助けることができなかった。ウチの子供たちは、日本語以外は親に教えてもらっていないので、自分たちで勉強しなければという環境になっていた。これが良かったので、三人ともいい学校に入れたのかもしれない。
さて、今日の昼間は、まさに嵐の前の静けさ。嵐の前の常識として、ガソリンを満タンにし、Artificial FireLogを6本買い足し、今晩の食べ物をテイクアウト。これで準備完了である。
雪嵐は午後8時ごろから降り始めた。写真のBlueが雪であり、これは10pm時現在。まだまだ降り続く予報で、月曜日、火曜日まで続くそうだ。積雪は10－20インチとなっている。20インチともなれば50㎝であり、近年にない積雪となろう。また、強風と相まって、ブリザードになる可能性は大きいそうだ。
