2022.0908.(Thu) O Pedrouzo-Santiago de Compostela 20.1km 12.6miles
I decided to leave one hour earlier than usual to arrive at Santiago together with Naoko and Barry. So, woke up at 5, breakfast at 7 and departed at 8.
Downhill begun as we left O Pedrouso. This was the usual pattern of going down to the river and coming up to high point. I felt the Camino trail was too narrow to accomodate so many pelegrinos. Thankful that it was not raining in spite of the forecast. Someone might have known it was my last day of 1600 km and he might have postponed the rain.
Went through highway with underground tunnel and found bar at the hotel. I remember this bar where I talked with an intelligent English woman 7 years ago and didn’t know where and how to stop our conversation.
Ascent begun to the airport from here and continued for 2 km. Made 90 degree turn towards north and found a kiosk selling souvenir, which appeared to be busy. Soon, the trail turned 90 degrees towards west and downhill begun. Soon, village of San Palo, where 2-3 bars were in business. Approx, 2km from San Palo, arrived at the village of Lavacolla where I stayed 7 years ago. Met Naoko and Barry here, much earlier than I expected.
The trail shifted to the southern side of car road where we found Garcia monument of 10km to Santiago. Naoko and Barry went ahead, and we would meet at the monument of Monte de Gozo. At San Marco, just before Monte de Gozo, met with Naoko and Barry who said there was no monument at the Monte de Gozo. Indeed, the monument was not found. According to care person of Capella San Marco, the monument was taken down in 2021. Sky now cleared and be able to see part of Santiago.
Walking 5 km more, arrived at the Cathedral. The Italian boy met 2-3 days ago told us we can get Compostela until 7 pm. We went the pilgrim office and got Compostela. Took a few pictures in front of Cathedral.
Dinner was pinchos with champagne and paeria.
今日は尚子たちと同時にサンチアゴ入りするために、一時間早くでることにし、5時起き、7時朝食、8時発にしました。Pedrouso を出ると下りになりました。川まで下ってまた登るという、いつものパターンでした。巡礼の人数が多くて、道が狭く感じます。ありがたいのは、雨が降っていないことでした。予報では雨になっていましたが、私の1600㎞最後の日に当たるがわかって、雨を止めてくれたのかもしれません。ハイウェイをトンネルでくぐるとホテルのBarがありました。このBarは、7年前に休んだところであり、その時は英国人のインテリジェントな女性と話し込んでしまって、時間のたつのを忘れていた記憶があります。
ここから飛行場に向かって登りが約2㎞続きます。空港の滑走路に並行した道に90度北へ曲がると、土産物屋の屋台が出ていて繁盛しているようでした。しばらく行くと90度曲がって西向きに戻り、下りになりました。滑走路の誘導灯基部を左に見て、右手にはハイウェイを見ながら下っていくとSan Paloの村にBarが2－3軒集まっていました。それから2㎞ぐらいでLavacollaの教会に出会いました。ここで尚子とバリーに追い付かれてしまいました。この村は7年前に泊まった記憶があります。
ここからは、ハイウェイの南側に移ると、これより10㎞とのGarcia州標識がありました。尚子たちは先行し、私は自分のペースで進み、Monte del Gozoのモニュメントで会うことにしました。San Marco まで行くと、尚子たちが戻ってきてきたのに会いました。Monte de Gozoにはモニュメントなどはないというのです。そんなはずはないと行ってみたら、やっぱりなくなっていました。すぐ近所にあるCapella San Marcoの教会守に聞いてみたら、2021年に廃止になって、基部は地面に移行したとのことでした。それを探していってみると、なるほど基部だった時の彫刻に見怯えがあります。残念だが仕方がありません。目を西に転ずれば、空はきれいに晴れてくれて、サンチアゴ方面の遠景が見えるが、カテドラルはまだ見えません。
ここから約3㎞デサンチアゴの町の入り口に着き、そこからは、街路をひたすら歩いてカテドラルに着きました。3日前に出会ったイタリア人の25歳の若者がいて、まだCompostelaを発行してくれるというので、事務所に行って、証明書をもらいました。前回は並んで並んで3時間ぐらいまたされましたが、今回は20分ぐらいで発行してくれ、大変な進歩だと思いました。証明書を手にすると、やはり嬉しいし、完遂した喜びがわいてきました。これも、家族の支援と、友人たちの応援のおかげです。
ホテルはいいホテルでした。結願のご褒美の夕食はピンチョスとパエリアでした。尚子がしっかりとググっていいレストランを見つけてくれました。
