2022.0817,(Wed) Sahagun-Calzadilla de los Harmanllos 14.5km 9.1miles
Sahagun was not so big but not so small. Took nearly 20 minutes to arrive at the exit of the village which was Puente Canto, a beautiful Roman bridge over rio Cea. From there, again the camino was along the car road. Kept going and I understood I should go right at the village of Coto. A sign appeared after 4km or so, and said anyone wishing to go to Calzadilla de los Harmallos, you had to make right. But did not say where to make right. So, I was going with an Italian group until I enter Coto. However, walking over 1km with the Italian group from the sign, Coto did not show up. So, I realized Coto was somewhere else and turned back for 1km where the sign was. I investigated the road surface very carefully and finally discovered yellow arrows were erased by blacktop. But that erased sign was indicating the right direction to Coto. In other words, Coto was not dividing point but it was after making right turn. I did not read the detail of the map carefully.
Entered in to Coto at 12:00 and had hot tea at the bar. Went through the small village of Coto in a few minutes. Kept going on gravel road for 3 hours, arrived Calzadilla at 3:30. I saw no animals, no human being during these 3 hours, which was awful and somewhat dangerous. However, it encouraged me to walk this Via Romana that Roman troops must have been marching here 2000 years ago. After struggle of 3 hours, arrived at Spring for peregrinos. Then saw a few houses after walking 1km. I was pleased to be relieved from washing because the inn keeper washed my clothes for a fee.
Sahagunは、そんなに大きな町でもないですが、決して小さい町でもありません。町の出口であるCanto橋まで20分かかりました。この橋はきれいなローマ橋で、5つのアーチでRio Ceaを渡っています。ここからは、カミノは自動車道路のわきを行きます。並木のある所もあれば、ない所もあります。Cotoという村で右に折れるべきということは知っていました。4ｋｍほど行くと、道端に標識があって、Calzadilla de los Harmallosに行くものは、右折すべしと書いてあります。しかし、どこで右折するのかは書いてありません。イタリアからの巡礼グループとイタリア語で話しながら、Cotoに着くまでは一緒に歩こうと歩いていました。しかし、道標から1ｋｍ以上も歩いているのに、一向にCotoには着きません。ここで私は、Cotoはこの道の途上ではなく別のところにあるのではないかと思い、標識のところまで1ｋｍほど戻りました。そこで路上をつぶさに観察していると、ついに自動車道上に、黄色の矢印がタールで黒く塗りつぶされているのを、何か所か発見しました。結果的には、この塗り潰された黄色の矢印がCotoに至る道だったのです。つまり、Cotoは分岐点ではなく、右折したあと500m歩くとあったのです。地図を細かく読んでいなかったミスでした。Cotoには正午に着き、バルで紅茶を飲んで小休止しました。5分ほど行くと周りに家がなくなりました。この道はVia Roma、ローマ道です。道には砂利というか小石というか、こぶし大の半分ぐらいの大きさの石で覆われていて、歩くたびに足がずるりと後ろに滑り、とても歩きにくい道なのです。なるべく、石の少ない箇所を選んで歩きますが、なかなかピッチが上がりません。苦闘する事3時間、周りに何の建物もなく、人にも犬にも会わず、一人だけでひたすら西へと歩きました。考えようによっては、もし事故が起こっても助けはなく、危険でもありました。しかし、はるか2000年の昔に、おそらくローマの軍隊も同じ道を歩いたと思えば、とても元気が出てきました。3時間後には巡礼の泉に着き、そこから1㎞ぐらいでやっと家が見えました。宿は若い夫婦が経営する小奇麗な宿で、有料で洗濯をしてくれて、とても助かりました。
