2022.0724.(Sun) Ruesta-Unduez 11.0km 6.9miles
Slept well and got up late. Wanted to make a tour of ruins of castle but some other time. Left the area as marked. Arberge was at 553m above sea level and went down to 498m to go across a stream. Pass Ermita de Santiago Apostol at 528m. Then ascent continued on old car road with gravel. Called taxi driver Ricardo to make sure he is ready and he hoped I get to Unduez by 2pm.
The road kept going up slowly and walk a long distance to gain height on car road. The peak of the road was 865m but when I got there, it was 12:30 and no way I can be Unduez by 2pm. But, behold, suddenly a Toyota Land Cruiser appears with full load of girls. I stopped it and asked if I can get on for 2-3km. The driver agreed and girls squeezed to get my space. I was on for bout 3 km and got off 2km before Unduez. It was hot dry day and if I had to walk all the 5km of descend, it was difficult. In any event, I was able to arrive 1:45 to Unduez. Met again with the Dutch couple at the bar there, 4th time. Ricardo, the taxi driver brought me to Hotel Yamagichi in Sanguesa. This hotel was 2 star but was pretty good.
In 2015, I walked Camino Frances and took a resting day in Pamplona, when I visited Javier. On the way to Javier, passed this hotel. I remembered because of the Japanese name. I am pleased I can stay there this time. Inside the hotel, there was an explanation of the naming. It was named Yamaguchi because Francisco Javier mainly propagate the Christianity in Yamaguchi prefecture in 16th century.
よく寝たので、朝の出発が10時になってしまいました。アルベルゲ受付のLunaという若い女性はテキパキと仕事をしてくれるので、サンドイッチ頼んでもすぐに作ってくれました。今日は、山を越えてUnduezまで行くのですが、そこにはホテルがないので、タクシーでSanguesaまで行ってホテルに泊まり、明日朝Unduezに戻ってSanguesaまで歩く予定でした。一方、旅行社が手配したタクシーのドライバーRicardoに朝電話すると、2時までにUnduez に来てほしいというので、とにかく急ぎました。距離は11㎞ですので、4時間あれば平地なら不可能ではありません。ところが、アルベルゲ標高553mから528mまで下りて沢を渡り、頂上は865m、そこから5㎞下って標高628mのUnduez に着く必要があります。沢を渡ったところに、古い教会 Ermita de Santiago Apostolがきれいな形で補修されて残されていました。ここからの登り約6㎞に意外と時間がかかり、頂上に着いたのが12：30で、残りの5㎞を一時間半で行けるかどうか危ぶんでいました。しかも、頂上までは疎林で影はありましたが、下りは西部劇に出てくるような砂漠で、天気はカンカン照りなのです。アタマをかかえていたところへ、なんとトヨタのランドクルーザーが登ってくるではありませんか。ドライバーは若い女性で、Unduezは行くかと聞きましたら、行かないがあなたの為なら途中まで行ってあげるとのありがたい好意です。若い女性達6-7人がびっしりと座っているのを詰めてもらって座らせてもらいました。2.5㎞ほど乗せてもらって、トヨタはUターンして登っていきました。この時12：50で、Hot Ovenのような砂漠を歩き、1：45にUnduez に着きました。とにかく冷たいものを飲みたいとBarにはいったら、またTon/Margaの夫妻に会いました。ここからRicardo というドライバーの運転で、ホテル山口に着きました。9年前にカミノのフランス人の道を歩き、パンプローナからタクシーでハビエル城に行く途中、このホテルの前を通ったのを覚えていました。このホテルは、2つ星ですがなかなかいいホテルでした。ハビエル（フランシスコ・ザビエル）が日本に伝道に来た時には、主に今の山口県付近で伝道したので、Yamaguchiという名前にしたと書いてありました。今回は、明日歩いてハビエル城に行く予定です。
