On the Mian Mian Do Do map, it looked flat and easy 13.1km. But after Yarnoz, at 4.6km, it went entirely different direction. Next 8.6km, it went up the mountain and traversed to west with narrow trail with many ups and downs. Finally, it took me 5 and a half unexpected hours.
In the evening, at the dinner table, met with most unexpected people. They were four and from Ukulaine. I sung a part of Ukulaine hymn which we sung at our choir in New York, the Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY). One of the four studied Tibetan Budhism and asked me meanings of Kami, Mandara, Taizokai, Kongokai and so on. I suggested him to go to Koyasan in Japan for I could not explain him of the meanings of these words.
今日は、出発地から目的地まで歩きます。宿からYamozまでの4.5㎞のカミノは、ほぼ地図の通りでした。ところが、そこから目的地Tiebasまでの8.6㎞は、地図とは全く異なる箇所を通っていました。地図は、国道沿い、水路沿いの平地を行くコースなので、これなら楽だと思っていましたが、カミノは山中に向かい、Monrealの西にある1135ｍの山のすそを延々とトラバースさせます。道は細く、登ったり下ったりの険路でしたが、その代わりパンプローナとその付近の町がよく見えました。Guerendiainの村を抜けて四時間の険路歩きはTiebasで終わりました。村の入り口に崩れた砦の跡がありました。Tiebasにはアルベルゲしかないので、車でMonrealまで戻りました。この晩は、村の食堂が閉まっているとかで、宿主は5㎞ほど離れた町のレストランに泊り客を連れて行ってくれました。私のほかに4人いて、5人でテーブルを囲みました。最初下手なスペイン語で話し始めると、英語にしてくれと言います。どこから来たのか聞くと、最も予期しない国、ウクライナから来たとのことです。中の一人は、カミ、マンダラ、タイゾウカイ、コンゴウカイなどについて教えろと言いますが、それなら高野山に行ってくれとお願いしました。印の結び方も知っているようで、私よりもずっと仏教には詳しいようでした。
